NAME OF STREET CHILDREN SHOULD BE CHANGED:
JUNIOR MAYOR BLOEMFONTEIN

The name of "street children" should be changed to "community kids", Bloemfontein's junior mayor Thami Mokhutu said at the Bloemfontein launch of the K-TV market day on Thursday evening.

Mokhutu said no street had ever given birth to a child. He said that as junior mayor it was his duty to be a role model to the children of Bloemfontein.

It was encouraging to see young people involved in the upliftment of themselves and the community and able to make money from it.

On the market day on June 7 more than 450 young Bloemfontein entrepreneurs will operate 150 stalls on the Loch Logan island. They will join more than 6500 other youngsters in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Windhoek.

Among the products to be seen at the Bloemfontein market will be catapults, ceramics, painted textiles, headsocks, chicken and chicken feed, handmade bean bags, plastic bag holders, ceramic bears and hand-painted T-shirts.
